Diaan de Beer Biography

 

Cape Town-based photographer Diaan de Beer’s motto is simple: ‘You are only as good as your last photograph’. With this mantra, Diaan has carved out a career typified by creative excellence, breathtaking photography and a passion for the pursuit of perfection. Since his Art Direction Through Photography studies at the Advertising College of South Africa and the beginning of his photographic career in 2003, Diaan has mastered the art of understanding, utilizing and manipulating light to create spectacular images depicting his love of fashion, portraiture and still life. From celebrated shoots for titles including Fair Lady, Sarie, Sports Illustrated, FHM, Cosmopolitan, Men’s Health, Taste, Mercedes, Forbes Africa and Elle to campaigns for prestigious brands like Swims, Lalela and Kat van Duinen, Diaan has quickly established himself as one of South Africa’s leading photographic talents. He has worked in different countries like Argentina,Australia, Dubai and Norway to name a few, but Cape Town is where he calls home. And despite his incredibly personable nature and love of interaction with others, Diaan often describes his work as possessing a “sitting in the dark element” – a feeling of isolation and loneliness that is both provocative and poignant.
